Strong Social & Emotional Wellbeing

This workshop provides students with the cultural understanding required to deliver mental health services within a social and emotional wellbeing framework. This course is open to both Indigenous and non-Indigenous students.
This workshop has been revised and updated to support the need for physical distancing during the pandemic. This workshop was previously delivered as Working Together.

Learning Outcomes
The learning outcomes reflect the key domains of competence required to practice within a social and emotional wellbeing framework when delivering mental health services to First Nation peoples in Australia:
- Understand the diversity of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and peoples.
- Be able to explain Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander concepts of social and emotional wellbeing.
- Be able to recognise and work with risk and protective factors that affect social and emotional wellbeing.
- Understand the influence of the historical, political and social determinants on social and emotional wellbeing and mental health of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
- Gain understanding of strength-based, trauma-informed practice when working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
- Identify the cultural basis of your own values and practices.
Workshop facilitators: Each workshop is facilitated by two Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander psychologists.
Workshop materials: Students will receive a comprehensive workbook to support learning during and after the workshop.
Students will receive a Certificate of Attendance, which allows AHPRA registered practitioners to claim Continuing Professional Development (CPD) points.

Workshops are open to anyone with interest in mental health (consumers, carers, mental health and community workers, community members).
