Vipassana Meditation: its origins and practice

September 23, 2021 @ 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm

Free

Vipassana is a very ancient meditation technique, now practised widely around the world. It is a remarkable tool for self-development, to achieve the inner peace and harmony which eludes so many people today.

It is simple, scientific and practical, and has nothing to do with any cult or religion. This talk will cover its origins, its uses, and how and where it is taught today.

The session will be led by instructor Patrick Given-Wilson, a former merchant banker who retired to become a full-time teacher at the Vipassana Meditation Centre in Blackheath, NSW Blue Mountains. Patrick first learned Vipassana from his teacher, SN Goenka, in the 1980s and has since taught meditation all around the world.

Vipassana meditation is taught in ten-day residential courses in a variety of centres and countries around the world. There is never a fee for these courses, which are entirely supported by donations from previous students.
